Fuzzy like soft texture

Hey Luminaries,

I’m puzzling a bit with this material. It’s a subsurface scattering one but with quite a lot of structure so I’m a bit confused for the starting point. I’ve now used a translucent material as start but it kind of lacks the structure. For some structure I’ve added a noise map in the bump but it doesn’t get the roughness it basically needs. So I was thinking if maybe the mold-tech materials were a better start since it looks bit of spongy. Any tips?

That looks like what in english they call “flocking” where an adhesive is sprayed on the surface then dusted with the dry media and sticks. so, the fuzz material would be my first stop, with a short length but high density. looks like it has a slight anisotropic quality, where the viewing angle affects the sheen.

Hey Oscar! I’d have to agree with Matt on this one. Fuzz would be my first choice. Depending on the scale of the model, you should be able to make a very dense, short length fuzz effect that should achieve what you’re looking for.

Thanks @matt.gerard and @karim.merchant,

It still needs a bit of tuning but great fun to play with the hairy things. In my post I was talking about mold-tech but I actually meant the scattering mediums foam thing. That worked actually quite well but even with quite some curves the render times of fuzz were much faster. I did notice depending on the settings even with the same amount of curves the render time can pick up real easy.

These renders were around 5 minutes (GPU) with only 256 samples. Will try tomorrow to see if I can get a bit further although I do like this look.
